Each KARMA begins with a natural gourd.
For HULU STUDIO, material is never only a surface. It is part of the story. The shape of the gourd, the texture of the leather, the softness of the cotton cord, and the quiet presence of natural stone all become part of KARMA’s character.
KARMA NO.1
Natural Gourd
The body of each KARMA is made from a natural gourd.
A gourd is not an industrial form. It grows slowly under the sun, shaped by vine, air, water, and time. Its curves cannot be fully controlled. Its surface may carry small marks, color differences, and natural unevenness.
Nanami Li keeps these traces rather than hiding them. They are not flaws. They are signs that the object once belonged to nature.
Over time, natural gourds may also deepen in color and develop a soft patina through touch, age, and quiet use. This makes every KARMA a piece that continues to change after it is made.

Natural Stone
Some KARMA pieces are finished with carefully selected natural stones.
The stone is not used as decoration alone. It becomes a small point of weight, energy, and presence. Its color, shape, and texture are chosen to respond to the body of the gourd and the mood of the individual piece.
Because natural stones are formed by time and earth, no two stones are exactly the same. This allows each KARMA to carry a different rhythm.

Leather
Natural leather is used in the base and finishing details of KARMA.
Leather brings warmth, structure, and a sense of touch. It softens the boundary between object and hand, making KARMA feel less like a distant display piece and more like something that can quietly live beside a person.
As with the gourd, leather may also change over time. Its surface can become softer and deeper through use, giving the piece a more personal sense of age.

Cotton Cord
Cotton cord is used as a quiet handmade detail.
It gives the base of KARMA a soft, grounded feeling. The cord is not meant to be loud or decorative. It is a small structural gesture, connecting the work to handcraft, care, and the rhythm of slow making.

Handmade Details
Every KARMA is finished by hand.
The eyes, expression, surface treatment, and small details are created individually. These handmade choices give each piece its own mood. Some may appear calm. Some may appear stubborn. Some may seem as if they are quietly observing the world.
This is why KARMA is not a mass-produced character.
It is a one-of-one art toy shaped by nature, finished by hand, and given a story by time.

Why These Materials Matter
HULU STUDIO chooses natural and tactile materials because they carry memory.
They are not perfectly identical.
They do not remain completely unchanged.
They respond to time, touch, and environment.
For Nanami Li, this is part of the value of KARMA. Each piece is not only made once, but also continues to live with its collector in a quiet way.
Materials are not separate from the artwork.
They are the beginning of its story.
